Mental Health Discussion & Support

Mental Health Discussion & Support

Many of us suffer depression, stress, anxiety or just general day to day worry, all on our own.

You may not be comfortable sharing your story, or you may want to inspire others to share and seek support.

Whatever you're going through, this group is a safe place to chat, ask advice, offer support and just not feel alone.

Feel free to post inspirational material, support contacts or positive advice for others. This is NOT a place for judgement though, please.

How's everyone going here? Managing to get through daily life PLUS uni pressures?
Don't forget to reach out here, or to me... OR TO ANYONE if you feel like you can't cope.

Now if only we could all hold onto the beliefs of a child (here are the latest words of wisdom from my 12 year old)

Stephen I think you are AWESOME!!

And I mean that in all sincerity - to (a) still be focused and positive about your studies and (b) be generous enough to share with us.... THANK YOU.

Unfortunately for some mental illness is such a "taboo" subject that they are scared to bring it up. But to be able to let others know there is support out there is really helpful.

Thank you... I enjoy chatting more with you.

Hi Stephen and thanks for sharing.

That's awesome that Disability Services have been such a good help for you.

I might give them a call, I think, 'cause study has gone way off the rails for me.

Hi Everyone

I'm a first year Off-Campus student and I'm glad to see this group here. I suffer from Bipolar Disorder and I had real problems last trimester. I was unable to complete my subjects. To top it off at the end of last month I was retrenched so it's not the best start to this trimester, but I feel pretty positive about my studies going forward.

I've had a lot of help from Disability Services at Deakin and  they have put a management plan in place to help with my studies. I recommend anyone who is diagnosed with a Mental Illness to get in touch with them.

I look forward to hearing from other students who may be in the same boat.

Good luck for T2

So how is everyone tracking coming into T2 next week. Feeling confident - ready?
Do you have strategies in place to cope with the times when you are not feeling so great?

Both Deakin and DUSA have some fantastic services (including  but not limited to advocacy and counselling), so if you don't feel like you're coping, remember you're not alone and I am happy to put you in touch with someone that can help.
